(Johns) Jordan said…: When I am in State College visiting my parents, from time to time, I encounter someone that has played or is playing for the State High soccer team. I get a suprised reaction when I reveal that I played for State High before it became varsity. They then usually ask similar questions such as; when did we start playing?, how did we get together, and how did we do?. A group of us got together and wanted to play soccer. The State High guys team would play club tournaments between seasons so we signed up. We played against all guy teams and had difficulty coming up with a win. But playing against the guys taught us skills that we needed to be better players. We were coachless at the time. Word got out and more girls became interested. We then moved to the next level and looked to join a couple of club tournaments and also found a coach who volunteered his time, Coach Armstrong. He was the father of one of our players Stacy Armstrong. The first tournament we entered we placed 2nd. The rest is history as in 1987 it became a varsity sport.
